Pictures: Horatio's playing in the treehouse
Horatio had become the master of dragging lately. He hates going to bed.
We had a specific bedtime routine. Usually started with brushing teeth, washing hands and feed (bath/shower usually done as soon as he got home as he was often covered with sand), then bed. He knows this routine very well, so he had always dragging on and on to brush his teeth. Even when he reluctantly doing so, he will make quite a bit of noise to ensure everyone on our road knows about it.
Dear parents, we all know our 'Me' time usually started AFTER our children go to bed. As we all need to get up early the next day (not like we have a choice, somehow our children never quite manage to learn the art of lie-in until they are way into Primary School, they almost always get up early, 7 days a week), our 'ME' time is usually short. So of course I am not very keen on letting Horatio playing this.
So I invented a story.
Horatio had some specific Phobia about certain insects. His most recent ones are earwigs. So I use the most well known Taiwanese folk story 'Aunt Tiger', replace our good old Aunt Tiger with earwigs. It works. From that day forward, as soon as Horatio start making any noise at night, all we need to do was telling him: "The earwigs is coming! It's right outside of your window! Listen, other children who doesn't go do sleep are screaming cause their fingers are being bite off!" He will immediately drop his attitude and heads towards the bathroom. Aren't I evil?
